Lightweight Structures Unit - Faculty of Architecture - University of Innsbruck

A design course for 3rd semester students. We engage in tasks focused on developing parasitic buildings with nature, defining architectural functional programs, and translating biological ideas into designs for multipurpose sport village project. Students gain an extensive understanding of biomimetic principles to craft structures that harmonize with mountainous environments. The outcome designs incorporate botanical metaphors inspired by climbing plants, demonstrating the potentiality of adaptable parasitic architecture.

Instructors : MSc. Hasan Hadi Abdulameer, Assoz. Prof Andreas Holzinger from botany deptartment

A design course for first-semester students. participants explore the utilization of natural branches to construct spatial structures, guided by an understanding of the branching patterns seen in trees. The process involves collecting Y-shaped branches of varying dimensions and angles. Inspired by Gaudi’s methods, students create hanging structures that operate under tension forces. These structures are then cast in gypsum, flipped, and transformed into compression-based designs.

Instructors : MSc. Hasan Hadi Abdulameer, MSc. Fereshteh Khojashtemehr , MSc. Mohammad Hassan Salih Tabari.

In this course, students develop a comprehensive understanding of plant branching cellular structures, and processes by studying various plant tissues and cellular structures within nodes. In the first year, students apply these bio-inspired concepts to design multifunctional structures. Then, in the second year, they focus on creating joint designs that emphasize ease of assembly and disassembly.

Instructors : MSc. Hasan Hadi Abdulameer, Assoz. Prof Andreas Holzinger, MSc. Charlotte Penman from botany deptartment

This seminar aims to cultivate advanced individual expertise in biomimetic architecture, then participants apply this knowledge in developing structural systems inspired by nature. Participants engage in discussions and reflective exercises to explore and implement lightweight structures inspired by living biological systems, considering their geometries, and sustainability implications.

Instructor : MSc. Hasan Hadi Abdulameer

The objective of the VU Design of Structures is to give students an introduction into the structural analysis, functioning and calculation of structures with an emphasize on geometry as the mediator between the technical and the architectural design. In addition to basic knowledge of the most important load-bearing systems and related terminology throught using , students gain insight into the function, mode of action, design and calculation of the most important load-bearing elements in a structure and building.

Instructors : Prof. Guenther Filz , Dr. Athanasios Markuo , Mr. Wolfgang Onmacht , MSc. Hasan Hadi Abdulameer , MArch. Fereshteh Khojashtemehr , MArch. Mohammad Hassan Salih Tabari , Tutoring Students from Faculty of Architecture
